The Prophet (2014) is an animated drama film based on Kahlil Gibran’s book. Directed by Roger Allers and various artists, it follows Mustafa’s philosophical conversations while under house arrest in Lebanon.

As he faces execution for his writings, his friends attempt a daring rescue. Produced by Salma Hayek, the film features a collection of essays, each directed by different filmmakers including Paul and Mohammed Saeed Harib, Gaëtan Brizzi, Nina Paley, Joan C. Gratz, Joann Sfar, Moore, Bill Plympton, and Michal Socha.

Set in Lebanon during the Ottoman Empire, the story centers on Kamila, a widowed mother who works as a housekeeper for Mustafa, a poet and political activist under house arrest. Mustafa’s interactions with Kamila, her daughter Almitra, and soldier Halim explore themes of freedom, parenthood, and the human condition.

As Mustafa faces the threat of execution, Kamila and Almitra risk everything to save his artwork and writings from destruction by the authorities. The film culminates in a poignant conclusion that resonates with themes of life, death, and the enduring power of art.
