What I loved most about the animation was how the scenes involving Roz and Brightbill’s interactions were framed. There’s a tenderness in the way Roz moves through the forest or protects Brightbill that makes her feel more human, even though she’s not. Favorite Character
While the film has a great cast of characters, my favorite has to be Fink, the sly red fox voiced by Pedro Pascal. Initially, Fink seems like just another cunning, self-serving creature, but over the course of the movie, he undergoes a surprising transformation. At first, he’s reluctant to work with Roz, but as he helps her raise Brightbill, he begins to reveal a different side of himself.
Fink’s growth is similar to Brightbill’s in some ways, as both characters start off with an idea of what they’re supposed to be—Brightbill, the abandoned gosling, and Fink, the sneaky fox—but by the end, both realize their true potential.
Fink’s willingness to help others and his bravery in the face of danger are what ultimately define him. He proves that even those who seem the least trustworthy can surprise you with acts of courage and loyalty.
I also have to give a shout-out to Matt Berry’s character Paddler, the beaver who spends all his time gnawing at a large tree that eventually saves the island. Matt Berry has an iconic voice and is the voice for Moomin Pappa from MoominValley, as well as other popular characters from television and movies such as Snow White and the Huntsman, The Inventor, and What We Do in The Shadows.
Favorite Scene
There were many scenes in The Wild Robot that left a lasting impression, but the one that stood out the most for me was when Roz and Fink were teaching Brightbill how to fly before the geese migrated for the winter.
The visuals in this scene were absolutely breathtaking, with Roz running through the forest, leaves flying in the wind, while Brightbill struggled but persisted, trying to gain strength and learn the skill he needed. The imagery reminded me of a teenager learning to drive—awkward at first, but determined to master something important.
