Since its premiere in 2022, Chainsaw Man has taken the anime world by storm with its Chainsaw man characters, earning a massive fanbase and becoming one of the most talked-about titles in streaming. I was late to the party as I just finished watching the season a week ago since writing this article. After finishing the season, I understand why Chainsaw man has such a crowd following. It is packed with awesome action scenes, and charasmatic and hilarious characters.
Based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s shōnen manga, the anime follows Denji, a teenager burdened by his deceased father’s debts, struggling to make ends meet. With the help of his chainsaw devil dog, Pochita, Denji works as a Devil Hunter, battling all kinds of demons in order to live a comfortable life.
The anime’s mix of action, dark humor, and complex characters makes it a standout hit, and fans are eagerly anticipating what comes next.
With a thrilling first season produced by MAPPA, the same studio behind Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man quickly captivated audiences with its unique storyline and stunning animation. Now, with the announcement of a new movie and the potential for a second season, there’s a lot to look forward to.
In this article, I’ll share some of my favorite Chainsaw man characters, and why this series deserves your attention if you haven’t watched it yet.

Chainsaw Man Plot Synopsis
For those unfamiliar with the story, Chainsaw Man is about Denji, a young Chainsaw man character, with massive debt and a desire to live a better life. His life changes when he’s killed by a Zombie Devil and is brought back to life when his beloved Devil dog, Pochita, merges with him, turning Denji into the human-devil hybrid, Chainsaw Man.
Season one follows the Chainsaw man character, Denji, and his adventures as he becomes a government-approved Devil Hunter, working with other Devil Hunters like Aki and Power. But the plot gets darker as Denji faces betrayals, dangerous Devils, and uncovering dark secrets about his own abilities.
The upcoming Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc will delve into one of the most intense arcs of the manga. Reze, a key character from this arc, plays a significant role in Denji’s emotional and physical struggles. The arc explores Denji’s relationships with those around him, particularly his complicated connection with Makima, and introduces new characters that will push the story to new heights.
Chainsaw Man Character Animation Style
One of the standout features of Chainsaw Man is its jaw-dropping animation. MAPPA, known for its high-quality production values, brings the world of Chainsaw Man to life with stunning visuals and fluid animation and the design of the Chainsaw Man characters.
The art style is vibrant and detailed, with sharp contrasts between the brutal action sequences and the quieter, more emotional moments.
In the Reze Arc, we can expect the same level of polish, with intense action scenes involving Denji’s Chainsaw Man transformations, bloodshed, and larger-than-life Devils.
Chainsaw Man Character Design
Denji
Denji has a scrappy, unkempt look with messy brown hair and a weary expression, reflecting his tough life. His design is simple but transforms into a striking, monstrous appearance as Chainsaw Man, with chainsaw blades protruding from his face and arms.
Pochita
Pochita is a small, chainsaw-like devil with an adorable yet fierce design. His round body and sharp, mechanical face give him a cute yet deadly vibe, with a chainsaw blade tail that emphasizes his devilish nature.
Makima
Makima has a sleek and elegant design, often dressed in formal clothing. Her long red hair, calm expression, and composed demeanor reflect her mysterious and powerful personality.
Power
Power’s design matches her wild personality with spiky red hair, sharp teeth, and a fierce expression. She wears simple clothes, but her horns and bloodthirsty nature make her stand out as a devilish character.
Aki Hayakawa
Aki has a clean-cut, traditional design with short brown hair and a serious expression. His devil hunter uniform reflects his disciplined, focused nature, in contrast to the chaotic characters around him.
Kishibe
Kishibe has a hardened, weathered look, with long white hair and a scarred face. His practical clothing and calm demeanor reflect his experience as a seasoned, no-nonsense devil hunter.
Chainsaw Man Characters My Take
Chainsaw Man has quickly become one of my favorite anime shows. What sets it apart from many other anime is its blend of raw action, complex Chainsaw Man characters, and dark themes.
Denji is a flawed, relatable character, and his journey with the other devil hunters is exhilarating. While the show delivers over-the-top action, it also takes time to explore Denji’s internal struggles, desires, and emotional growth.
What stands out to me about Chainsaw Man, and perhaps contributes to its success, is its chaotic nature and the interactions between the Devil Hunters. The characters’ antics and bizarre motivations are truly entertaining.
Denji’s primary goal in life is simply to be comfortable and, ideally, end up with Makima. On the other hand, Power, with her extreme personality, wants to destroy all humans.
Their contrasting desires and the way they clash with each other create a unique dynamic that makes the series both thrilling and hilariously unpredictable.
The upcoming movie, focusing on the Reze Arc, is a perfect continuation of this emotional rollercoaster. I’m personally looking forward to seeing how Reze’s storyline will unfold and what new revelations we’ll learn about Denji’s powers and past.
Favorite Chainsaw Man Character
When it comes to my favorite Chainsaw Man character, it’s hard to choose just one. However, if I had to pick, I’d say Makima is my favorite.
At first glance, she appears to be a kind, caring person, deeply concerned about Denji and the other Devil Hunters. She speaks in a calm, composed manner, almost too perfect to be true. Her gentle demeanor hides a much darker nature. She’s cold, calculating, and willing to do anything to achieve her goals, even if it means sacrificing people along the way.
Makima’s true nature is revealed as the story progresses, and her actions and motivations become clearer. What makes her fascinating is how she manipulates Denji, controlling him while pretending to care for him.
She’s one of the most chilling antagonists I’ve encountered in recent anime. Watching her shift from the kind, seemingly trustworthy mentor to the ruthless mastermind was a highlight of season one for me.
But what really makes her stand out is the unsettling feeling she gives off throughout the show. You never quite know where you stand with her, and that mystery keeps you on edge. Her quiet, emotionless smile is haunting, especially when she’s doing something unforgivable.
Favorite Scene
One of my favorite scenes is when the Chainsaw Man character, Power, unleashes her chaotic energy in battle. Power is another standout character—her brash, selfish nature makes her a refreshing contrast to the more stoic Aki.
She’s a bloodthirsty fiend who cares more about herself than anyone else, but she does show a vulnerable side, especially when it comes to her bond with Meowy, her pet cat.
The scene where Power declares, “Bow in the presence of Power!” before going on a rampage and taking down a large group of zombies is one of the most memorable moments of the season.
It’s a perfect example of Power’s personality—wild, unpredictable, and full of energy. Her chaotic nature adds humor and intensity to the show, and I couldn’t help but love her more after that scene.
